Background
Draw() helped artist Nicola Gear create a digital, interactive installation for the Neo-Natal wards at Southern General Hospital, Glasgow. The two pieces each took the form of a river, created by Gear by layering up handwritten text. We brought the pieces to life using Flash animation, making the rivers ripple, flow and react to movements made by viewers with the mouse.
The pieces could then be further explored by clicking on the piece of writing. Within the 'River of Writing' this revealed submitted work and information by local artists and enthusiasts around the topic of the river. Within the 'River of Names' the reason for the choice of the selected name is revealed, a touching and appropriate topic for a place of birth and new life.
